Soul Searcher has done a musical tag and I came across this song which prompted me to share it with you.
Most of the schools spoon-feed their students and the result is, they do not have their own thoughts about what they learn from their books. The teacher takes a lesson and write the question answers on the board or dictate them. The children are asked to write them three times, as the day's homework. This happened with my relative. I still remember her writing them blindly, while chatting with us, when she was in 3rd/4th std. She was studying in a very popular/supposed to be very good school. Like this, she had to write homework in all the subjects. Even now, she feels bad for studying in that method. She cannot write about anything on her own, even now.
The school conducted special classes for the 10th and 12th Board Exam students and the result was 100%! So again every year people flocked at the gate of the school, with a huge donation, to admit their children in that school. This has become a status symbol also, for the parents. This song shows how the children feel about this situation.
Now, to the video first and then, the lyrics:

Valid point there.
That's the business schools are doing...
Sundar: Welcome here. Yes, you are right.
Great Post!
So true, isn't it? Moulded children - just a brick in the wall! That's all our children are becoming.. Supress imagination, stifle creativity.. don't let the children think.. just make them learn what is precribed in the syllabus.
Love the song!! One of my favourites!
That is a wonderful post... !! really wonderful... I wrote almost similar things on smi' post too...
the world is outside the classroom...
SANDHYA...its very true but are there any other choices left.....i wish we followed our OLD-GURUKUL style of education where students learnt everything ...even a prince had to live like a simple farmer...taught kids a lot of skills and values too.
wordsndreamz: I had watched this video earlier and whenever I watched it, I was feeling sad.
If we, as parents, take some effort, this can be avoided, I think.
First step should be no tuitions. The children should be allowed to go out and play in the playground atleast for one or two hours. If they don't get friends, let them do cycling or something. Most of the children go for tuitions in the evening!
Actually, my cousin is doing this. She compels her son to go out and play cricket and now he is used to it. The daughter goes to dance class and on other days, go out by cycle with her friends. One hour activity is compulsory. Both my cousin and her husband are doctors. They don't bother if the children get 70% marks on an average. Both the children are happy children. My son also says that he is happy that I did not send him to tuitions, when they were getting 60% sometimes or less! And we should develop book-reading habit in them. Definitely they will not be moulded children.
Let us hope that Kapil takes some good measure to take steps to correct the current syllabus, which is just reading and writing, but include some other way of learning too.
hitchwriter: Yes, Dhiren. The happy world is outside the classroom waiting for you to use it properly.
kavita: We can only dream like that. We should take steps to see that the children are not burdened with just school books, but other physical activity should be there. They should be happy to become self-sufficient, when they grow up.
ji... we always go for popular's choice and popular's choice is always 100% results...
people are worried about clearing exams than learning :)
have you received my mail Sandhyaji??
I liked your blog very much. Its very nice and interesting.
You are welcome in my blogs.
kanagu: Yes, kanagu. Clearing exams is important, but the way the lessons are learnt, is also important. Learning and forgetting method is not right.
I don't see any of your mail in my inbox, kanagu. Will you send it again? I cleared my spam box without checking properly, this morning. Normally, I don't get anything important in my spam box.
babli: Welcome here. Thank you.
My Hindi reading is a bit slow. You seem to do caricatures, beautifully. Will check again, Urmi.
oh i am late here :(
wonderful post sandhya.
Getting into these schools has become a status symbols for parents.Even after 3.30 students are kept there till 6.00 for tutions,If they teach well what is necessary for the tutions?
not able to open the video will look into it later.Right now going to do ur muruku :)

varunavi: Don't worry. Sometimes, I am so late that another new post appears there! If I have guests, I can't come here. Let me taste your murukku, know that it will be very tasty!
We feel sad when we watch the video, so ignore. No problem.
great post Sandhya and yes so true that children are being forced to lose their innocence and their individuality:((
they are becoming automatons:(((
the song says it all na?
Indyeah: Yes, still it is in our hands to change them. After seeing Thomas (Missile woman) and Nooyi (Pepsi CEO), we should be happy to know that hard work pays, even now, even here, in India. From these moulded children, we are giving the world, intelligent brains!
Yes, the song is very good.
I am happy to have a comment here, from a celebrity blogger, Abhi! Thank you!
