Lok Sabha Elections

I came back just now voting for the Lok Sabha elections. The booth was empty in the morning, it seems. It was too crowded now. My husband and myself had to wait in the queue for more than an hour.

I don't mind waiting for 2 hours also. As soon as I came back, we switched on the TV and Cho Ramaswamy and Jayanthi Natarajan were on the screen. Cho says that Jayalalitha has taken a sensible decision - she will decide, AFTER election results, which party to support - BJP or Congress!

I feel like a complete fool. Our India is supposed to be a democracy and the people will decide on the person/party, to rule our country. This system of alliance AFTER results, is against the democratic system. I don't want to support BJP which will promote fanatics even more, if they are elected. Congress is not VERY good, I know, but Manmohan Singh is a dignified person and I would prefer him to be our PM. I shudder at the thought of Mayavathi, Shrad Pawar, Mulayam or anyone else, becoming our PM.

WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE. The so called self-promoting leaders will decide on our/our country's fate.

We said sandhya we dont have choice,i prefer not to vote, because i dont like any candidates.

Varunavi: I sorry to say, Saritha. That is worse. Somebody will vote for the worst party in our name. Known devil is better than unknown angel, is the way to vote.

Well... lets just say we have a lot of choice - to choose the least evil. :)

@Varunavi: If you do not like any of the candidates, exercise 49(O). Go to the booth, get the black mark, fill form 17A and tell the EC that you think none fits the bill.
If the number of people thinking like you exceeds the number of votes the winner gets, the election will be cancelled and a re-election will be held with different candidates.

Shilpa: Yes, you said it right. I am aware of this form 17-A... actually, that is a good idea.

I go for a candidate, not for a party.

I am yet to vote... will go to the booth by afternoon :)

Our democracy is degrading day-by-day.. every party were begging support from others :) it's a shame

This post poll alliance just goes to show how opportunistic our politicians have become. Parties want to decide after elections so that they can go with whoever is in a better position. Its a shame! I wish it were possible to bring about legislation wherein only parties with pre-poll alliances would be allowed to form a govt...Atleast we would know who we are voting for in that case..

Regional parties and independent candidates have so much power in these elections.

And they do not show their hand until after the elections so that they can support whichever national party is able to form the government.

As you say- this is against democratic principles.

kanagu: Vote as early as possible or else somebody will vote in our name!

Renu: I did that, this time. The Candidate who is representing this area, did many good things for his municipality, it seems. He has got a very good name in the area he represented earlier. I read an article about him and voted for him. I would like Mr. Singh to become the PM again too. So, two in one! But these politicians are never reliable

Smitha: I am fuming even now about this, Smitha. We are fools. But no politician will support this legislation, I am sure. And they should stick together for 5 year term. Blackmailing, like Karunanidhi and the Communist party were doing, will come down. This has got loopholes ...the main party will act as it likes and others should go along!

Manju:Welcome. This time the regional parties are contesting 39 seats, here, in Tamilnadu. So these MPs are important. This is like gambling.

Sandhya, That is the saddest thing. They fight as opponents and we vote for best out of them then they join to form coalition :(.

Sandhya said...

Solilo: When the 'coalition' govt. system started, our political system has worsened, I feel. Everyone will shout at each other today and tomorrow they will hold their hands together on top of their heads and say 'we are the best friends in the world'. We have to just sit and watch the tamasha/tragedy of our country.

none of them even bother to pretend to show some conscience...

they are so shameless they all say.. let the results come then we will decide whom are we going to support...

ridiculous...

Sandhya said...

hitchwriter: Congress is thinking (!) of inviting CPM! Conscience? No politician has got it.

I voted too..but then when i came back I to saw such news ..:(( I mean not that they are anything new but still it was disheartening
:(((
these post poll alliances are so disgusting and undemocratic like you said!:(

Sandhya said...

Indyeah: This is not new. But on that day, I waited for more than an hour in the hot sun and voted. When I came back, these people are sitting and talking talking and talking. Our vote is not important at all. They will twist the result with the alliances and a person whom we hate will grab the topmost post of our country, by sheer cunningness, I feel.

We will talk about this for another two days and go on with our life! Did you notice..not a single politician is talking about the people suffering in Sri lanka from yesterday! Politicians!

Yes post poll alliances are absolutely undemocratic...but noway does this mean we don't vote. This election was not who we vote for but who we vote against. And we did do it didn't we? We have Dr M M Singh as PM and not we did not choose hate politics. I hope some of these people disappear for good.
The media had talked about politicians like Modi being the next PM but people of India are not so easy to fool. Have you heard that song, "Yeh Public hai yeh sab jaanti hai" :)

Sandhya said...

IHM: Though in some areas, the voting percentage was less than expected, the people who voted, acted sensibly. Now, these irresponsible non-voters are also celebrating with us!

Now, people like Modi, will not talk nonsense, for sometime at least - Varun and Muthalik too!
