We had been watching this video for so many years now. Even now, the Doordarshan channel transmits this song often. This video is not very good. We get overwhelmed when we see this clearly in DD. The song and and the video - both compliment each other. Wikipedia link says:
The concept for Mile Sur was developed in 1988 by Lok Seva Sanchar Parishad and promoted by Doodarshan and India's Ministry of Information. The song was composed by Ashok Patki, co-composed and arranged by Louis Banks with lyrics by Piyush Pandey, then an Account Manager and presently the Executive Chairman and Creative Head of Ogilvy & Mather (India). The project was conceived and directed by Suresh Mullick (then All India Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather) and recorded by people from all walks of life, including a super group of Indian celebrities, musicians, sports persons, movie stars etc.
The National Integration video was intended to instil a sense of pride and promote unity amongst indians, highlighting India's different linguistic communities and societies - India's unity in diversity, so to speak. Mile Sur was telecast for the first time on Independence Day in 1988, after the telecast of the Prime Minister's Speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort. It quickly captivated India, gaining and maintaining near-anthem status ever since.
We can see prominent persons from art, like music & dance, literature, sports and cinema.

One ragaa, Desh, connects all the regions of our country...languages, locations, people etc. in this video. I think the regions' instruments also are used. I must hear and see the video again! Tell me your feelings also, friends, when you see this video!
I think I have mentioned about this song in my earlier posts on Door Darshan serials Here. This time I am quoting all the details!
We hear this song so much that we forget that we are lip-sinking the other languages also, nearly easily! I can never stop humming along whenever I hear this song! We are a great country with so many languages and cultures...still we are together always!

That song transported me to my childhood!
Happy Republic Day to you too. We are getting to celebrate Republic Day in India after many years, and I have to say, it feels very special.
SMITHA: Happy to see you here, Smitha! On these days - Independence day and Republic Day, we understand the true meaning of patriotism and feel proud to be Indians! We take everything on our stride on other days!
Happy Republic day!!!
Mile Sur has always been close to my heart. Not the new version though Happy Republic DaY!!
Most of us grew up listening to this Sony.
I regret ,in my opinion, this song should be played out to every minister,MP,MLA every morning.
India might improve.
HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY
Happy Republic Day Sandhya Manni.
K.PARTHASARATHY: Thank you, Partha Sir!
BHAGYASHREE: I don't like the new version too! Old is gold, always!
Thank you!
BK CHOWLA: I have lost hope about our politicians, Chowlaji!
Today morning we saw an interview with Dr.Nikhil Kaushik, poet, eye surgeon, critic...He was in BBC also. He sang Vande mataram with so much passion. Some good Indians are still there. We saw this in DD before the parade started! It was interesting! He directed a most acclaimed film, 'Bhavishya', it seems.
SG: Thank you, SG! Happy Republic day to you too!
That is indeed a beautiful song, loved by every Indian.
Happy Republic Day!
I love this song- I wish it were shown more often on all channels, not just DD.
Happy Republic Day, Sandhya!
Happy Republic day
RAMA: Thank you! Happy Republic day to you too, Rama!
MANJU JOGLEKAR: Yes, we don't get bored seeing this often in Bharthi or DD Channels!
ASHOK: Jai Hind!
SM: Happy Republic day!
I used to watch the procession when we had only DD. Each state had their own exhibit which will come over a vehicle.
But I feel that behind this one country, we are still divided on the basis of language, caste, regionalism, etc. The nation can achieve synergy only if these differences are broken. People are not willing to break them.
Destination Infinity
DESTINATION INFINITY: It is happening, D.I. and everything is getting diluted in the process! No more Tamil customs or Telugu customs or even Punjabi customs and traditions! Many children are marrying out of their States and languages. English is becoming the common language or sometimes Hindi. I would say it is good and mark it 50-50!
That song is the epitome of patriotism. Like Manju, I wish they would air it on other channels too. Barriers are not breaking down, Sandhya, but we are embracing a pan Indian/western culture and losing on our unique cultural identities including dress. I don't know if I am glad or sad.
ZEPHYR: Yes, that is the reason I said 50-50. Sometimes I feel that it is tood for our people, sometimes I feel sad because our uniqueness is gone!
The Western influence has invaded via media and IT industry. We are getting used to everything! Most of the educated children are going abroad and we can't blame them. They are nearly westernised before going there itself! Like we had welcomed Mughal and British invasion, now we are welcoming Western invasion!
Marrying inside Indian States itself was 'different' until a few years ago! Now, we don't feel surprised when our children bring English or French or Spanish speaking spouses! English language is like our own language now! It suppresses everything! Adjustment is the key word now!
i am sorry to say this but i didn't find any reasons to celebrate republic day this year .. thanks to the kind of things that our happening in our country presently !
no offense in saying this !
RAHUL BHATIA: I can understand, Rahulji! It is not going to be better anymore, without a proper, sincere leader for us. I don't see anyone in the vicinity.
