Summer flowers in our garden...

.
We have got different types of jasmine flowers in our small garden. Every type has got distinctive fragrance and when they bloom in the evening, the whole area is filled with a mixture of fragrance.

Rose malli (malli means jasmine in Tamil)

Our gardener says this is Kerala malli!

Adukku malli

Nithya malli

One more type of adukku malli

I have got Madurai malli also, forgot to take pictures before plucking! Will add later!

Edited to add on 28th March, '11:

Ah sandhya i got tears in my eyes by seeing those flowers,we had all in our garden and everyday evening we used to pluck adukku malli (we call it sana jagi) and it had crawled from our gate to the terrace.

We had that dodi malli(thick malli) and they used to look like bulbs in the dark....

Varunavi: I seem to be busy in the evening and so mostly I go up to the terrace and pluck them in the morning! As soon as I open the terrace door, the fragrance hit my nose and I feel so happy to spend nearly half an hour to pluck them.

Goalie and Jinju accompany me and play with me, touching my fingers in between the creepers.

Nice to know that you had these flowers in your house too!

UmaS: You are welcome, Uma!

This took me back to my childhood, when what you planted was more important than how and where in what design you planted. We too had , along with all the stuff you have put up, a jai-jui creeper (dont know what malli it would be by name), that climbed way up to the terrace. In addition, I remember that we also had a Prajakta/Parijatak tree, which you could shake and it would rain flowers down ! ....

Ugich Konitari: Welcome and happy to see you here, Suranga!

Until 3 years back, my paarijaatha plant was pouring flowers on us, like you said! It looked like stars in the sky, at night with white flowers with orange stem and the fragrance...mmmm...I still remember! For this fragrance, I had planted it near my kitchen window! When we white washed our house, the painter washed his paint bucket with kerosene or thinner and 'poured' it on the routes of the plant. I shouted at him and nearly cried! Took out all the mud surrounding the plant, still it died. I tried so many times to grow one more plant, but no use. Even now, I feel sad thinking about the trayfull of flowers I was collecting in the morning.

Swaram: Yes, I love the time I go around the house and upstairs, for plucking the flowers with my cats! They compete with each other to reach upstairs before me and wait eagerly with their beautiful eyes!

Roshmi Sinha: 'Maradh Malli' sounds fine, Roshmi!

I have got Juhi creeper too. I will take pictures after they start blooming and post here...they smell nice too!

Kavita: Welcome back, Kavita! Hope you had a good holiday in Delhi!

The workers just don't bother about plants or flowers. When they come even for a small work, they destroy some plant here. It takes a long time for the plants to pick up, after they go through the chemical effects of the paints.

Waiting to read your new posts, Kavita!

How much I wish I could connect back to the earth with plants/trees - Gardening will become my favorite hobby after a few years. Now I am lazy. But I like to have fruits and vegetable plants, as I want to eat my own grown things.

I never even knew so many varieties of malli are there! I have seen only one type in roadside shops :)

Bikram: I had seen many colourful flowers in my niece's place in London. She has got jasmine creepers too, but the fragrance is very less. These are creepers, Bikram, she got it from some nursery over there. Thank you!

Destination Infinity: Having our own home grown vegetables and fruits will be devine, D.I. It will be more tastier too...all the best for your gardening!

KParthasarathy: Jaadhi malli was blooming for a few years and the creeper died suddenly. I tried to grow it again and again, but it didn't grow!

Renu: Thank you, Renu!

sm: Thank you, sm!

kanagu: Yes, the colour combination is beautiful, kanagu!

All the best for your mother's plant. If you keep it in shade and water twice a day, there might be a chance, it might start growing.

Radha: Yes, Radha, it is, in the evening and my pooja room is full of its fragrance in day time.

Beautiful! I love coming to your house and looking at your garden maami!

I agree with D.I. I have always wanted to do gardening. Remember the book you once gave me, for my birthday? :) Tried out a lot of things with a great deal of excitement. Especially, "Cress in an Egg". Never worked. Too much water, or something. I too am just lazy now. Sigh. :)

Ashwini: Once you start gardening, it becomes an addiction, Ashwini! It is very interesting to watch the plant growing and noticing the first flower, etc. Even now, I keep the first flower of any new plant, near the god! These are gods' or nature's miracle, I feel!
