It was 2 AM. Jhansi railway station. We were changing trains on our way to Khajuraho. Came here straight from Chennai. Had to wait at the station to catch the train to Khajuraho. It was drizzling quite heavily. Cold. We didn't get any place to even sit down. All the seats around columns were full:) At 2 in the morning, tea biscuit shop was making brisk business. And this small restaurant was open. Customers were trickling....But we were interested in watching the dogs at its doorsteps. Very understanding dogs. They never disturbed anyone. They just slept on a doormat peacefully. As soon as a customer went inside the hotel, they got alerted. Immediately they will get up and wait near the entrance! Once the customer filled his stomach and left, the waiter cleaned the plate of crumbs near the doorstep! These two dogs rushed to eat them. Again, waiting. Sometimes they were getting a bit more food. They never allowed any 'beggars' near the door of the hotel! Otherwise harmless!
Some more pictures from the station!
Gau moothra (cow's urine) was holier in the olden days because they grazed on grass and herbs. Nowadays, they have to live on plastic and fast foods. Hmmm...
The chaaiwaala was doing good business...coffee, gharam gharam chaai, biscuits, samosa, kachoris! Interesting!

This one was roaming here and there all the time. I saw one man catching its urine too! Holy water! |

You are very observant. These poor dogs. President John Kennedy said life is unfair. That is very true. Some dogs are sleeping in their own airconditionjed bed rooms in a big mansion. Some dogs are waiting for thrown away food at 2 am on a cold rainy night at the Jhansi Railway Station.
SG: Thanks for the first comment, SG! Yes! But they seem to be happy! Going up and down the stairs, playing, then coming back if any person went inside the hotel! They were entertaining us!
North Indian railway stations seem to be a bit more interesting than South Indian ones, especially for us South Indians! :)
Destination Infinity
The station , that seems to be the refuge of stray dogs and cows with the former's proclivity to relieve themselves near the many pillars and the latter's tendency to ease themselves, must be smelling.
First time i am hearing someone collecting cow's urine directly. Varied experiences our country offers!
DESTINATION INFINITY: If you for interesting things, you will get it everywhere! If you are in a bored mood, everything will be boring....philosophy!!!
K PARTHASARATHY: And this is not a female cow:) This station was a bit clean. Mathura station was the worst. I had vomiting sensation throughout the 45 mts. we had to wait for our train. Lights were switched on at 7 pm, so it was a bit dark too! We have decided not to go by train hereafter. Son wanted the experience and he got it:) Mathura station was full of pilgrims but they were the people who were dirtying everywhere. Small kids were urinating everywhere...
Great description of the station Mami :) You just took me to that station and dogs are so cute. It was nice to read:)
Indeed! In the smartphone era people’s attention toward their surrounding has turned less… Nice observing the dogs and their attitude quite amuses. Though the cow may be harmless but with sharp horns it may scare if come closer.
SHARU: Thank you, Sharada! Watching them was interesting!
JEEVAN: The cow was soft natured. Didn't bother anyone. But I don't like them or any animal inside the station. Cleanliness should be maintained. Will it ever happen in our Railway stations? Thank you, Jeevan!
Interesting images indeed. So representative of life in India !
Smart dogs and kind waiter, keeping the dogs fed. Look at them sitting all alert. Really cute!
RAMAKRISHNAN RAMANATHAN: Welcome back, Ramakrishnan! Long time since you came here! Thank you!
SHAIL MOHAN: We enjoyed them.... all the three of us:)
Nice description
Does it not show the ways of life as such.. some get everything some very little ..
some are loved some are shooed...
Bikram's
It is amazing to me to see cows like that. I'm from the USA and it's hard to imagine seeing that here. I like that they put out food for them!
ONKAR: Thank you, Onkar!
BIKRAMJIT SINGH MANN: Yes, Bikram! That is life!
SANDI: Welcome to my space, Sandi! We, Indians are used to seeing cows everywhere...nobody harms them. But this is not good...cows moving among people in crowded places.
Thanks for the comment!
Nice observation... Thanks for sharing!
Loco mente: Thank you, Loco mente!
Oh, we too had been to this place and that too in summer, imagine it was so hot in the afternoon. We had two hours to wait, and we got to sleep in the waiting room which had beds, and also fan and toilet. But it was so hot
Even i love people watching, it is never boring
RAMA ANANTH: We noticed that a few platforms were better but the one we were waiting was badly lit, too much crowd with small kids...stinking. But watching people and animals was interesting!
