Nice picture: a rare sight these days.
RAMA: Yes, I took this picture at Rameshwaram! We took this type of cart from Rameshwaram station to the place where we stayed, 20 years back. My son remembers even now. We took it for the children's sake at that time!
What a rare & lovely relic to remind us of the past. Jatkas or horse drawn carriages have almost disappeared in most cities.
Year, years back we used to have similar Sawari in Old Delhi.
How have times changed..
I don't remember taking a horse-cart in Chennai, but I do remember the cycle-rickshaw. But I have traveled in a horse-cart in Utthukottai a long time back. Strange that I remember this!
Destination Infinity
RAMAKRISHNAN RAMANATHAN: Yes. I saw a couple of Jhatkas in Bangalore Shivaji Nagar area, a few years back. Otherwise they have disappeared in the current traffic.
BK CHOWLA: Leisurely enjoyment is not here anymore. I took my sons in this Jhatka in Rameshwaram, 20 years back, just for fun...for them!
DESTINATION INFINITY: Yes, it is strange. You might have enjoyed the ride because it was different. My son too remembers his ride of 20 years back.
This is such a rare sight now:)
Reminds me of the horse stories paati used to tell us. In all of them the horse eats kollu!
India of those days!
I was wondering whether these carriages are still in use. After going through the comments I could gather that it was 20 years ago. Nice shot.
RAHUL BHATIA: Yes, it is! Very rarely we see them now, like we saw one in Rameshwaram!
ASHWINI: Yes, they eat kollu - horse gram!
RAHUL AGGARWAL: Even now, one or two carts are plying, Rahul!
PN SUBRAMANIAN: I took this photo at Rameshwaram on 11th Feb.'13! But very rarely we see them now!
I took horse sawari when i went to shridi last year.
Nice photo :) I remember seeing many horse jatkas during trip to Shirdi!!
But its sad that they have become rare but when I was a child I noticed that such horses are ill-treated by their masters - no proper food and too much work. Hope people are treating such horses better these days!
Cheers,
Sai :)
VARUNAVI: My sis in law visits Shirdi often and she too said that jhatkas can be seen at Shirdi. I had visited once but I didn't see any. They are not common anymore with so much traffic on the roads!
SAI CHARAN: Jhatkas, bullock carts...all animals are treated badly, mostly. Very rarely I see beautiful animals which are taken care of well by their owners. I have watched a bullock cart in front of my house which takes manure and plants often. I could see the man/driver talking to the animal. The animal is very healthy and beautiful! It was visible that he loved his animal.
Very nice picture. A sense of tranquility
