Gafla, an interesting Hindi movie

I have never heard about this movie, Gafla, until my son mentioned about it and asked me to watch it. I was in for a surprise. It was quite a good movie. If you are interested in stock markets, then this movie is for you. You will enjoy it better.

Subodh Mehta(Vinod Sharawat, who reminded me of a young Vinod Mehra!) is a middle class intelligent young man, with old parents and a sister. He wants to come up in life and be a rich man. He thinks that share market is the best thing to become rich, if you handle it properly. He reads lots of books on share markets and his idol is Rasiklal (Vikram Gokhale), whose rags to riches story impresses him.

He takes the first step and goes to Bombay Wall Street and comes across Hari (Brijendra Kale) who is a stock broker. Through him he enters the big world of share markets. With correct moves he learns to get tips about which share to buy and which one to sell - the typical bear and bull markets. He starts to make money and people start relying on him. He opens an office and everyone starts buying shares as per his recommendations and make money - from middle class people to low class people treat him as their god. Then the bigwigs in share markets get worried and want him to come under their control...He refuses to do so...Now, the war begins. He is accused of a multi-billion bank scam and is arrested.

No marks for guessing on whose life-story, this movie is based on. The debutante director Sameer Hanchante has done his best in handling a dry storyline.

Shruti Ulfat, who acts as Subodh's girl friend and wants to marry him, has done well. Nearly all the actors are from TV serials and have acted very well.

People who want to watch a class movie, this is it!

Kavita: You are back! Nice!Did you enjoy your holidays?

This is not a typical bollywood movie, but a bit serious one. If you are interested in stocks and shares, you will enjoy. My husband is interested and I am familiar with the subject.

Varunavi: If your husband also is interested, you can enjoy this movie with him!

"People who want to watch a class movie, this is it!" - This line is enough to drive me to watch this movie :)

In your words, "Gafla" sounds to be a good and a decent movie, thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Sai.

will try to see it soon ji :)

Sai: This is a worth watching movie, but no songs or dance sequences!

Kanagu: Hindi! Get a copy with sub-titles. I know very good movies are coming in Tamil too, nowadays, Kanagu. I very rarely watch movies. Go to the theatre only for Kamal, Mani Rathnam or Shankar's movies. Nowadays, ordinary A/C theatres are gone. Sathyam complex means, we have to take lot of trouble. We are living in the outskirts of Chennai.

I have never heard of this movie before. The plot seems interesting.
There are a lot of these gems which we never get to hear about or see as they get lost in the melee surrounding the commercial cinema.

Aparna: I agree with you, Aparna. Nowadays, nice movies are coming with off-beat stories and good small-time actors, who do very well. These movies mostly are shown in multiplexes for a limited audience. Their (the director's) target must be Film Festivals, I think, where they will be recognised in the true sense.

How come I never heard of this movie... strange.. I must check it out... thought the story sounds like a direct copy from the movie Wall Street... !!

See that movie too... it has Micheal Douglas and Charlie Sheen similar kind of story... but fantastic acting !!

bout shares... !! well I m mighty interested...

Sandhya said...

hitchwriter: The story is a bit similar to 'Wall Street', but indianised. The acting was good and the way they had taken the story, was not like a documentary, but interesting. They hint at Parikh also, in the end.

That sounds very interesting! Have to check it out!

You have narrated the story so well! I am dying to watch it. And to me the fact that it does not have huge stars is a big plus! I always find such movies more realistic.

Sandhya said...

wordsndreamz: If big stars are not there, we tend to blend with the story/character. We don't think at the back of our mind, 'Akshay Kumar is so cute', etc.! Interested in share markets means, you will enjoy more!

Indyeah: Dhiren said so, too! My husband watches Zee Business and CNBC and sometimes discusses about the shares he buys and disposes at home. I have read a lot about Harshad Mehta too. So this movie was interesting for me. If not, the movie might be a bit boring, to watch!
