Pt.Bhimsen Joshi - The Legendary Singer Is No More...

.

Wikipedia says:
Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi (February 4, 1922 - January 24, 2011) was an Indian vocalist in the Hindustani classical tradition. A member of the Kirana Gharana (school), he is renowned for the 'Khayal' form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music (bhajans and abhangs). He is the most recent recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, awarded in 2008.
For me, he reminds my father! When I read the news in twitter first and then heard in the NDTV, I had tears in my eyes! I was wondering why! Then it suddenly flashed in my memory...he reminded me of my father! I have heard this song, 'Bhaagyada Lakshmi baaramma' in Panditji's bhooming voice many many times!
I had mentioned in some of my blogs about Hindustani classical music, that I was introduced to Hindustani music by my father. He used to hear a lot of Hindustani music programmes in the radio programme, 'National programme of music' at 10 p.m. when I was small. He used to love Panditji's songs. I remember him crying while hearing Panditji's music, after he became old. It was fun for us and we were teasing him in those days.

Now, after hearing 'Bhaagyada Lakshimi Baaramma', I am crying! What a voice!

Our Indian music lovers will always remember him!

This will remind him for everyone, from children to adults!

Our whole hearted Pranaam to Panditji...

Edited to add, an hour later, my young niece's tribute to Panditji.

Though I couldn't see the embedded videos, I liked your tribute to Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. I listened to his bhajan, this morning, after so many months, without knowing that he passed away.

Do read MY tribute to him. www.wini-ram.blogspot.com

It indeed is very sad. His voice was very pure and whatever he sang sounded divine. I've seen him on TV a lot of times but was never fortunate enough to catch his concert live.
It would always be my regret.

It is so sad! He was one of our living legends. And I think the whole of India, must be mourning him.

Lovely tribute, Sandhya! What a voice, and what a loss for us that he is no more.

Pt. Bhimsen's 'Jo bhaje Hari ko sada' in Bhairavi, is an all time favourite in our family....

Ashwini: I hears some more songs of his, today! Hope he has trained some students in his gharana. I don't know much about him.

Aparna: Even I have never heard him live. I remember my father telling me that Panditji used to come to Udupi Krishna temple and sing often and he had attended a couple of concerts.

wordsndreamz: He was not well for sometime now, it seems. Well, loss is a loss.

Manju: Yes, the song is a very good one, Manju.

An era has ended with Panditji. Sadly there is noone to carry forward his mantle or legacy...

My first introduction to him was through the 'mile sur mera tumhara' song via DD.

Panditji... loho pronam.
