My Chirping Babies!

.

This family of sparrows visited my balcony and I had the privilege to record their activity! This is my first proper video recording! I was sitting on the dining table chair and recording it! I had noticed a sparrow couple when we shifted to this flat.  They were always in the front side of the complex.  I used to place rice and bajra in my balcony to lure them.  But they never came.  I was telling my husband that their family is not growing, I still see only one couple of sparrows! Last week, the whole family visited me to show that their family is growing!
I feel so happy!

If you can't see the video in the embedded window, here is the  'you tube' link.

A home for them is ready, in our balcony.  Hope they feel at home here.

I had written about my earlier bird babies here!

I thought sparrows have become extinct at Chennai.Great to see them in your apartment.Nice video.Only you must ensure they do not build nests inside the house. In my younger days they used to build on the big octagonal clock fixed on the wall in the drawing room.My mom would not permit me to remove it

K PARTHASARATHY: I see them in a very few places in Chennai. They are beautiful tiny birds. They used to build nests in boxes in our house too. Nowadays, they are scared of humans and pollution which make them extinct. I have kept a hanging nest in my balcony and I would love them to build a nest there. But we have got too many crows and pigeons. They seem to be disturbing them. Let us see.

In our area we don't even get to see a sparrow outside, nowadays. Good to see that some are left in Chennai. I have seen sparrows in Coimbatore - they used to fly around bikes and play. What a sight that was - miss them! Good to see this video :)

The sound of the birds chirping merrily has been nicely captured, and the birds too look very . They seem to be having a good picnic in your pot in your balcony.

DESTINATION INFINITY: Thank you, D.I.! I hadn't seen them near my old house. Here I see a few in our complex and near the beach road. Still they are just a few.

RAMA ANANTH: It was a feast for me, their voice and the way the babies were being fed by the parents. I love them and they came to me just to show off their babies!

You are lucky to have them in your house, otherwise they are getting extinct..

You are truly blessed to have a whole family of sparrows visiting you ! I haven't seen a sparrow in more than a decade.Their numbers are rapidly dwindling which is very sad.

RENU: We have got many crows in this area! They don't let other birds roam here.

sm: Yes, sm! Please do watch the video!

RAMAKRISHNAN RAMANATHAN: That was the reason I was very happy to record and post it here! Love the babies opening their pink mouths! Love their chirping sound too!

I couldn't see the video yesterday but could view it only now.Amazing capture. The chicks are growing fast and will soon be ready to fly out and face the big bad world of predators and pollution !

RAMAKRISHNAN RAMANATHAN: I was feeling sad while watching the parents feeding the babies. The next day after I took the video, one crow came, sat on the grill and shouted at them. All of them flew away. I saw just the parents near the pots yesterday after nearly a week. Don't know where they left they left their babies. It must be a tough job for the parents to bring up their babies. After 1 1/2 years, I saw this set of babies. It was always just the two of the grown sparrows roaming here until then. If I keep grains I will be inviting crows and pigeons inside the balcony. I am feeding the crows with thayir sadam at my kitchen window. I don't want them to come this side too!

Omg, Sandhya! Awesome, doesn't describe it. I had seen only the initial few seconds of it while travelling. Absolutely cute, the way the parents are feeding the chicks. They are eating by themselves too after a while! I was wishing to see them closer and then you zoomed in!
Thanks for the wonderful video! :D

SHAIL MOHAN: I knew you would love this video! I was so nervous not to make any sound and disturb them. Thank god, my hands also didn't shake!

Seema and Usha also will love this!

Thank you, Shail!

What a beautiful video you have recorded

Loved the video. But be careful. I am not sure I would like to have them in my home.

ONKAR: Thank you, Onkar!

RACHNA: Thank you, Rachna! Those days are gone, the sparrows building nests inside our houses. Too many predators for them. Poor birds.

wow! glad to see sparrows visiting your balcony... there were sparrows at the backyard of my grandmother’s house in thiruvanmiyur but they all flew away somewhere lately when they extended their home.

I too have placed bird feeder and yet to fix the nest box that i bought long back.

JEEVAN: I see only the male sparrow now. I think the crows are not letting them to live. Felt very sorry when I saw the lone bird. Our area is full of crows and pigeons.
