We, Indians, have got great sense of humour!

I think there is no need for me to 'explain', the cartoons say it all...let us enjoy 'reading' about our country's scams and vote for these people, again and again:

The above cartoon is from 'The Hindu' newspaper. The next one is from 'The new Indian Express':

These two letters are published in 'Outlook' magazine:

First letter:

With corruption scandals running into lakh crores (1 followed by 12 zeroes), we need new numeric units to comprehend these humongous figures.

O. Solaiappan, Salem

I have spread the (sort of reply!) letter here, so that it will be clearer! You can see the original in the Outlook link! Mukul Jain, you are great!

Second letter:

A few ideas for new words to refer to large numbers: So,

1,00,000 crore = 1 raja;

10,000 crore = 1 radia;

1,000 crore = 1 kalmadi.

So Anilbhai’s home in Pali Hill will now cost Rs 4.5 kalmadi;

ongc’s annual output is Rs 1.2 raja;

India’s loss in the 2G scam is about Rs 1.7 raja;

India’s total annual subsidy on kerosene is Rs 2 radia.

Mukul Jain, on e-mail

Incredible India!

yeah its ok to have humour but then how long will it carry on , it has to stop somewhere .. so much money in individuals hands and yet out nation is so poor,

I think its high time the GOVT does something , takes every nickle from these corrupt people and use it for the good of country ...

THe jokes were good though ...

LOL, we sure do have a great sense of humour. If only we had a great sense of accountability too :(. I cant decide whether to laugh or feel sorry for the shameful state of our affairs

haha..they have made a joke of corruption...like varunavi i loved the first cartoon..

I like the new units that have been proposed. Very funny! Maybe I will try to use them. :))

Haha :) Loved the cartoons and the email maami! I don't know whether I should laugh or feel ashamed of our politicians.

varunavisworld: The best, isn't it?!

Bikram: Already the media is forgetting 2G and CWG...Raja might come back in his earlier position within a few months! We can sit and blog about it!

Feel very sad, Bikram!

deepsspeakingup: We have to be ashamed of ourselves...no one has got guts to punish these people! All are scared of Raja and Radia because if they are pressurised, the old skeletons might start coming out from every party, yes, even from BJP's cupboard!

Ramesh: Yes, the cartoon is good, Ramesh!

Deepa: As soon as I read this email in 'letters to the editor' I posted it! The imagination is too good!

Ashwini: This is our India, Ashwini!

A sad state.. let us fight it with a smile.

cartoons are very good and bring a smile. what can govt do, when these people are their own..its for the public to vote for clean people.

hahaha.. those were really fun but also remind us of the sad state in which our country is :(

Sandhya said...

kanagu: We are used to enjoying political jokes, even if it is corruption - from our-tax payers- money!

Harish: Fight?!!

Renu: Who else is there for us to confidentally vote for a good, better governance, Renu?

evanescentthoughts: All of us feel sad in a corner of our heart!

Very funny! And we need humour to tide over the scams.

The cartoon shows we have tremendous sense of humor. We can enjoy this humor with a prick of conscience.

The new units part at last was too funny. I am a firm believer that in a democracy, people get what they deserve. And as people, I think we deserve nothing more than that. There is no point in blaming the politician again and again. People need to think every time they put the mark on the ballot. Not in the period in-between.

The cartoons are hilarious, Sandhya!

The common man will never need to use the new numeric units- they represent such large amounts. Only politicians may use them!

Sandhya said...

radha: Yes, we really need our sense of humour to forget the impact of the scams!

Shalet Jimmy: Yes, you are very right, Shalet Jimmy!

Destination Infinity: The politicians mainly target the lower middle class and poor people. They know that with some freebees, they can win back their votes! The educated people should start taking election seriously and take steps to see that the correct person is elected, who has got a little bit of conscience to serve people, at least with 60% effort. If it happens, we will definitely beat China and come out of the brand of 'third world country'.

Nitish Kumar and Modi are showing some hopes, I feel!

Sandhya said...

Manju: Yes, the common man need not learn this arithmetic! It will be of no use to him, haha!

lol
excellent cartoon

vimmuuu said...

Funny, but hurting !

Philip said...

We are the best when it comes to corruption. This is the only other place we beat the Chinese hands down other than population growth.

UmaS said...

LOL !!! I've seen the first two before...but those letters in Outlook, damn good.... :) But nothing seems to be bothering those who made those money....

Swaram said...

Agree with Deeps! As much as we can laugh at the cartoon characters of those who run our country, we need to something about their real self!

Bhargavi said...

ha ha ha! 1 Raja!!jokes apart,i am sure there are many more Rajas that got lucky and remained unearthed. Sad state of affairs indeed!.

Sandhya said...

sm: Thank you!

vimmuuu: Yes, it hurts and seeing Manmohan like this, hurts more.

Philip: Welcome here, Philip! Yes, I think you are right!

UmaS: Everybody is used to scams now!

Swaram: Hmmmm....

Bedazzled: Welcome here! That is the reason Manmohan took so much time to indict Raja! If Raja opens his mouth, lot more skeletons might come out!

Hahahahaha! Thanks for sharing this...

Rupee has been conquered by Raja and hit by RADIA-tion ;)

P.S. Will borrow this for a later post.

Sandhya said...

Roshmi Sinha: That is great imagination, Roshmi - 'Rupee has been conquered by Raja and hit by RADIA-tion ;)'. Your angle of thinking is always different!

I am waiting to read the post in this subject!

Indian Home Maker said...

Brilliant. But I do hope those involved are held accountable and dealt with firmly. But I doubt if that would ever happen...

Sandhya said...

IHM: Thank you, IHM!

We have already started forgetting these scams and the politicians know our minds!

Now, Adarsh scam is catching up! If they demolish this building, whose money is going down the drain? What were the environment people doing all these time? Who sanctioned for so many floors?

After 2 months, we will forget this and another new scam will push its head up and the whole media will glorify the scams in high pitches!

These are really funny. Especially Mukul Jain's reply!
